Restaurants

Buca di Michelangelo

One of our favoured restaurants in the area. Sitting on the hills of Caprese Michelangelo, the restaurant has beautiful views over the valley. The food is exceptional, especially pasta dishes with truffles or porcini mushroom and tagliata (sliced beef) with rosemary and juniper berries. The staff is always friendly and the wine is reasonably priced. They are also famous for their Limoncello with ginger, so if you are there you should definitely try it. The restaurant is a short walk to the house of the legendary Michaelangelo. He was born and raised on this hill and you can find the scenery around the house on many of his paintings.

Talozzi Restaurant

A small but very special restaurant located just under the main square in Anghiari. The food is a twist of Italian kitchen, very tasty dishes, do not disappoint. Margareta and her mum are both excellent chefs and there is always something new and exciting in the menu. Often serves unusual and interesting pasta and meat dishes.

II Fuedo Del Vicario

This is a fine dining restaurant just of the centre of Anghiari. Antonio, the owner is an artist and a chef. He runs his restaurant together with his family and their dishes are more refined and a little bit different to other restaurants in the area. They are always happy to take you down to the wine cellar and advise the wine for the evening. During the season they have a few tables on the street across from the restaurant and if you can, book those, as it is a pleasure to dine and watch how live in Anghiari passing by during the warm, summer evenings.

Borgo Di Celle

A restaurant with the most romantic settings in the area. Definitely book a table outside to enjoy the scenery. The restaurant has a spectacular view spreading over 100kms into the hills and valleys of rural Tuscany. The food is good, less fine dining but more than traditional kitchen. The staff is welcoming and friendly.

Cantine del Granduca

Another very good restaurant near the centre of Anghiari. Always very popular due to a very good kitchen, usually needs to be booked in advance for a lunch or dinner. Mainly traditional Italian dishes but well done.

Bar Pizzeria Baldaccio

Located in the square in Anghiari. The furniture outside the bar are a little tired but it is still best pizza in the entire area. Also does take away pizza. They do pizzas, pastas and salads. Wine is very local but there is a very good wine bar just next door to it.

Bar Garibaldi

Located in the square in Anghiari. Best ice creams in the area. Must try Cremino Pistacchio and Cremino Chocolate, excellent.

  • La Nonna on the top of the main street of Anghiari (food was always just ok and once we were served bad truffles with a strong chemical taste).
  • Pizzeria Zi Teresa at the bottom of the Anghiari hill, pizza is definitely better at Bar Baldaccio.

We would recommend avoiding booking restaurants on Friday or Saturday night, as they can get very busy and with a lot of people, neither the staff nor the chef will give you the time and attention as they do during the week.
